Krystle Rose is a hair and makeup artist based out of Byron Bay who’s passionate about clean beauty and elevating a woman’s natural radiance. Her romantic style is in many ways quintessentially French, characterised by dewy skin and elegant, understated makeup complimented by that effortlessly chic, unstructured hair that we all strive for.
After falling amoureux with her holistic approach to beauty during a recent campaign, we asked Krystle to share her tips for achieving radiant spring hair and makeup.
“I love that skincare has become a priority over makeup and that women these days are embracing the glow from within that comes from wellness.” - Krystle Rose
Skincare tips at a glance:
Exfoliate or use a clay mask
Message your face with a Gua Sha crystal
Hydrate with a hydrating mist
Moisturise with a natural moisturiser cream
Apply a hydrating lip colour
“I often put cucumbers, lemon, or Celtic sea salt in my water for the body to absorb it better.”
To achieve a natural radiance, Krystle recommends exfoliating or using a good clay mask before an important event. “Exfoliating creates a natural glow because you’re removing dead skin cells,” she tells us.
Follow that up with a GuaSha massage, which she explains is an “ancient massage technique that typically uses a shaped crystal tool to stimulate blood flow in the face.”
“Guasha naturally gives your skin this vibrancy because you’re moving oxygen and blood around the body.”
While these are beauty techniques that Krystle loves for herself, when prepping a model, like Charlie in our Joie of Dressing campaign she swears by hydration mists. “They’re incredible for prepping the skin and adding hydration,” she shares. We recommend Christophe Robin’s Hydrating Leave-In Mist with Aloe Vera.
She also recommends applying a rich natural moisturiserto dry areas and around the eyes for a “super plumped, glowy quality.” We recommend, [HYALU]BIOTIC Regenerating Plumping Gel Moisturiser by SVR. Finalise with a hydrating lip colour.
Makeup tips at a glance:
Apply a light foundation or skin tint
Dab concealer where necessary
Brush liquid bronzer on the high planes
Polish brows with a brow product
Add depth with a neutral eyeshadow and lip
“People are afraid of blush, but blush is so complementary. It brings such a youthful radiance.”
To create Charlie’s makeup, Krystle started with skin-care prep and then added a light foundation, similar to a skin tint, dabbing concealer only where necessary.
“One thing I’m loving is liquid bronzer,” she reveals. “I use a big brush and apply it anywhere the sun would naturally hit the face to add a sun-kissed look.”
She gestures lightly across her forehead, eyelids, cheeks, jawline, and sides of her face in a sweeping motion.
“For this look, we’ve done a polished brow and added some mascara, a darker neutral colour under her eye, and a dark-neutral lip,” she explains. “With neutral colours, it’s really important to take the time to figure out your favourite shades.”
“The term “neutral” actually encompasses so many shades. Going into the depths of what neutral can be is really beautiful.”
“Everyone is different. Some people have red undertones, and a red taupe will suit them, vs. someone else who will look great in more of a brown. My advice is to go into a store and spend at least ten minutes utilising the staff to go through and try your colours.”
“Once you have those colours, you’ll feel empowered every time you purchase something. When you know how to make yourself feel fabulous, you’ll go out into the world and be your best self.”
For Krystle, the best part about having women in her makeup chair is seeing them go through the “soul experience” of learning how to do justice to their features with makeup.

Hair tips at a glance:
Embrace your natural texture
Curl with a wand
Brush out completely
Apply a hair sheen
Leave it as-is or twist into a claw clip
To create this effortlessly chic hairstyle, Krystle curled Charlie’s hair with a wand and then brushed it out for a cohesive look. She then added a sheen for a silky finish.
Her trick is to brush really close to the head. This not only softens the look but is also great for hair health.
For women with curly or wavy hair, she recommends embracing your natural style with a curl cream.
For a quick spring hairstyle, twist your hair into a claw clip, bring out face-framing pieces, and touch-up and straight bits with a curling wand. Claw clips are chic, simple, and complement any hair texture.
“I really love using a model’s natural hair texture. Rather than blow drying and destroying their natural texture, I’ll use a curl cream or hair treatment to amplify and enhance it.”
Krystle leaves us with this final beauty secret: “Bring awareness to how vital sunshine in the eyes is for natural radiance.” This doesn’t mean staring directly into the sun or forgetting sun care.
Instead, she recommends "experiencing sunlight on your face and in your eyes, even if it’s just fifteen minutes of low sunlight in the early morning or evening. It’s incredible what that can do for your circadian rhythm,” she tells us. Many dermatological studies have found a direct relationship between our skin health and circadian rhythm. Krystle reminds us that beauty truly comes from the inside out.
