The yellow fields of Normandy are widely known for their remarkable past. During the Second World War, they became the backdrop of the Allied forces’ final push to liberate France from Nazi occupation. Villages were destroyed, and countless lives were lost. Today, that poignant history is softened by nature's quiet resilience. In May, those same fields shine golden with rapeseed crops before transforming into a sea of pale blue flax blossoms in June. 

Flax is a plant species grown especially for its seeds and fibres. The fibres are harvested, spun, and processed to make the subtle and graceful French Linen. Over time, the steps for constructing French Linen have been perfected to create what is now considered to be one of the world’s most sustainable and high-quality textiles.

When the first blooms of spring make their debut after a crisp winter, there is a universal sigh of release as warmer days inch closer! While linen guides us gracefully through spring, it truly belongs to summer. As the days get longer and our schedules become filled with Aperols in the sun followed by un apéritif dînatoire with friends, we need a wardrobe that adapts to the warmer climate as well as our busy schedules. Sun-drenched days and effortless dressing are where this timeless fabric feels most at home.

Our linen care tips  

Pure French Linen wears exceptionally well thanks to its natural antibacterial, breathable, and moisture-wicking qualities. Because 100% linen stays fresher for longer, it requires fewer washes, helping maintain the quality of the fabric while being more sustainable. You don’t even have to worry about wrinkles with linen, as they are considered part of its charm. 

Below are our tips on how to further preserve this beautiful fabric.  

How to machine wash linen 

While you might want to wear your linen all summer long, the occasional wash wouldn’t go amiss! Machine wash on the gentle cycle using cool to warm water and a gentle detergent. Choose a low spin speed, and don’t over-fill the machine to minimise wrinkling.  

How to hand-wash linen 

Some linen is incredibly delicate and needs to be treated as such; this includes garments with a loose-weave or delicate embellishment. Fill a bowl with mildly soapy water, using a gentle detergent, and press areas to remove stains. Avoid scrubbing the fabric. Rinse with clean, lukewarm water and gently roll in a towel to remove moisture. Never, ever wring the water out of the fabric, even if that would mean being able to wear it sooner! 

How to dry linen   

If time allows, we do recommend air-drying our linen, although it can be tumble-dried on low. To preserve the colour of dark linens, dry them indoors and out of direct sunlight while they are still damp.  

How to store linen 

When you’re not showing off your gorgeous linen to the world, the same effort that goes into styling your garments should be put into storing them. We recommend storing in a cool, dry place.
