We’re thrilled to announce a nationwide styling event on Thursday 31st October, taking place in both our Blue Illusion boutiques and online.

On this day, 7% of all sales will be donated to World Vision to support the Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration initiative (FMNR), a global project aimed at restoring forests and farmlands.

With 7% of all proceeds from the day dedicated to this vital cause, every purchase makes a difference. Reserve your free ticket now to be part of this impactful event.  À bientôt!

Help the children and the planet fight back

Land degradation is among the most pressing of all environmental problems. It’s a symptom and a cause of climate change and it’s pushing the most vulnerable communities deeper into poverty.

Amazingly, much of the world’s degraded land contains invisible forests - complex root systems hidden underground with the potential to rapidly regenerate, heal the environment and help slow climate change.

World Vision is leading the charge to bring these invisible forests back to life through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR). By regenerating a billion hectares of land we can remove up to 25 percent of carbon from the atmosphere, prevent species loss and end extreme poverty for millions of people.

- In Niger alone, 6 million hectares have been reforested through FMNR – impact you can see from space

- Per hectare, FMNR can be up to 36 times cheaper than tree planting

- One tree can absorb up to 10kg of carbon dioxide per year

Climate change mitigation:
Increases capture and storage of carbon dioxide by trees, plants and soil, removing greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere.

Bigger, better crops:
Improves soil fertility for crop production so farmers can grow more food for their families

Better incomes and quality of life:
Farmers can develop new income streams and better provide for their families

Increased resilience:
Restoring the natural environment reduces the severity and impacts of disasters like droughts and floods.

More firewood, timber and wild foods:
Forest products such as firewood, timber and edible fruits become more available which families can use or sell for income.

- $50 can bring up to 1 hectare of land under restoration with FMNR, improving soil fertility for increased crop production and more food for children

- $100 can bring up to 2 hectares of land under restoration with FMNR, improving soil fertility for increased crop production and more food for children

- $500 can help communities remove more than 1,800 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere, the equivalent of taking 900 cars of the road for a year!

It’s estimated that over 12 million hectares of land in Kenya was degraded between 1982 and 2006.The main causes of this are poor land management and tree felling for fuel use and timber. This results in flash flooding, soil erosion and siltation in dams and other water sources. In rural communities who depend on the land for their survival, this means reduced food production and incomes. It also forces people to migrate to urban areas in search of a better life. By reducing the economic value of land and damaging climate cycles and ecosystems, land degradation has national consequences. Left unchecked, it worsens poverty, hunger, unemployment, instability, migration and conflict.

By building an FMNR movement in Kenya, communities suffering the most because of climate change and land degradation can rapidly restore their environments. World Vision has been continuing to build off and learn from how FMNR has been taken up by farmers across the 29 countries where we have introduced it. Our approach has been contextualised over many years and we now know what works to see this technique scale rapidly.
