As we snuggle into Autumn weather, our wardrobes begin a luxurious update. We’ve arrived at the season of gentle jumper hugs when chic style meets peak comfort. We’d be lying if we said it wasn’t a favourite. Bien sûr, the star of this soft and cosy season is wool.
As a brand that has prioritised natural fibres for more than two decades, we’re very selective about the fabric of our garments, especially our knits. That’s why Blue Illusion predominantly uses Australian Merino wool—widely considered the best wool in the world. So, what makes this fibre so special?
Gentle on your skin
There are so many things! But let’s start with how it feels. Australia’s climate and established grazing practices are ideal for raising Merino sheep, producing happier animals and higher-quality wool. Merino wool’s extremely fine fibre diameter also offers a uniquely soft and luxurious texture.
Not only is it gentle, but it’s also naturally insulating and odour-resistant. Isn’t that amazing? Merino wool fibers contain tiny coils that trap air pockets. These coils hold heat close to the body and regulate temperature by absorbing moisture. In other words, it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Parfait for trips abroad, as you can never predict the weather!
Gentle on Mother Earth
While superior comfort is a cherished perk, the true beauté of Australian Merino wool is its sustainable impact. Merino wool is both renewable and biodegradable, meaning it’s better for you and Mother Earth.
That said, we recognise that the full extent of wool's sustainability depends on farming practices minimising degradation and CO₂. Fortunately, the National Wool Declaration ensures transparency in the marketplace, necessitating ethical practices across the supply chain.
Supports Local Community
If you’ve been following Blue Illusion, you know that community is near and dear to us. We wouldn’t exist without it! That’s another reason why we’re so proud of our Australian wool. Wool production supports thousands of jobs in rural Australia, enhancing the lives of locals. So wear your woolies with pride this season! We know we will.
